Directorate for Multilateral relations and Security cooperation

The Directorate for Multilateral Relations and Security Cooperation prepares annual work plans and reports; plans, organises, coordinates and monitors the activities and tasks of the Republic of North Macedonia concerning multilateral relations, especially in terms of peace, security and human rights, the cooperation in international and regional organisations; coordinates the integration process of the Republic of North Macedonia into NATO; participates in the formulation and implementation of established foreign-policy views of the Republic of North Macedonia in international organisations; monitors, analyses and informs on the development and relations at a multilateral level; coordinates and cooperates with the competent institutions and authorities of the country; provides guidelines and instructions for the accredited missions of the Republic of North Macedonia to these international organisations and monitors their work; cooperates with the accredited representations and international organisations in the Republic of North Macedonia; manages and organises the work of the sectors and departments in its composition; prepares and implements the staff training programme prior to being posted to the representations; evaluates the work of the organisational units and representations under its jurisdiction; performs other duties within its scope of activities.


Sector for United Nations (UN) and Human Rights

The Sector for United Nations (UN) and Human Rights prepares annual work plans and reports; performs and coordinates the activities and tasks stemming from the membership of the Republic of North Macedonia to the United Nations and its specialised agencies; actively participates and proposes views in the work of the authorities and bodies of the United Nations; coordinates the activities and tasks of the Republic of North Macedonia in terms of international-legal protection of human rights; monitors the implementation of the international legal obligations of the Republic of North Macedonia for the protection of human rights and participates in activities for the advancement and promotion thereof; monitors, analyses and informs on the policy, activities and the system development of the United Nations; cooperates and coordinates the activities of the competent institutions and authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia in their multilateral negotiations and performances; prepares guidelines and instructions for the Permanent missions of the Republic of North Macedonia accredited to the international organisations and for the representations of the Republic of North Macedonia; cooperates with the accredited representations of international organisations and of UN member-states in the Republic of North Macedonia; organises and evaluates the work of the departments in its composition; performs other duties within its scope of activities. The Department for the United Nations (UN) and the specialised agencies of the United Nations (UN), the Human Rights Department and the Department for Disarmament and Arms Control operate within this Sector.


Sector for Council of Europe, Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and other international and regional organisations

The Sector for the Council of Europe, Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and other international and regional organisations prepares annual work plans and reports; performs and coordinates the activities and tasks stemming from the membership of the Republic of North Macedonia to the Council of Europe and the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe and actively participates in the work of authorities and bodies of these organisations; monitors, analyses and informs on the policies, activities and the development of the Council of Europe and the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe; cooperates and coordinates the activities of the competent institutions and authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia in their multilateral negotiations and performances; monitors, analyses and informs on the policy and the development of other international organisations and coordinates the participation of the Republic of North Macedonia thereof; prepares guidelines and instructions for the missions of the Republic of North Macedonia accredited to the international organisations and the representations of the Republic of North Macedonia; cooperates with the accredited representations of the international organisations and member-states in the Republic of North Macedonia; organises and evaluates the work of the departments in its composition; performs other duties within its scope of activities. The Department for the Council of Europe, Department for the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Department for the Francophonie and other international and regional organisations operate within this Sector.


Sector for NATO

The Sector for NATO prepares annual work plans and reports; performs and coordinates the activities and tasks relating to the integration process of the Republic of North Macedonia into NATO and monitors the implementation of political, security and defence reforms in the country; performs and coordinates the activities and tasks relating to the foreign-policy aspects of participation in peace-keeping missions and operations, as well as security cooperation in the Euro-Atlantic area; monitors, analyses and informs on NATO development and relations; proposes views on current security issues and on the contribution of the Republic of North Macedonia to international activities to address contemporary security challenges; cooperates with and coordinates the activities of competent institutions and authorities of the country; provides guidelines and instructions for the Mission to NATO and other representations of the Republic of North Macedonia and monitors their work; cooperates with the accredited representations of NATO member-states and the NATO Advisory Office in the Republic of North Macedonia; organises and evaluates the work of the departments in its composition; preforms other duties within its scope of activities.  The NATO Department and the Political-Security Cooperation Department operate within this Sector.
