Education and carrier
Mr. Zoran Popov MA has been a professional diplomat since 1998, spending most of his carrier in the European Union Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, advancing gradually through the ranks from Junior Desk Officer to Deputy Head of Sector for Political Relations with the European Union and taking active part in the drafting of vital documents in the European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as the country’s process of visa liberalisation with the European Union.
Between 2003 and 2007, Mr. Popov served a diplomatic term at the Mission of the Republic of North Macedonia to the European Union in Brussels. From September 2016 to October 2019, he was assigned to the post of Senior Political Advisor at the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) in Sarajevo, being tasked with promoting the political cooperation between the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP) participating states and assisting the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkan countries, coupled with lending political support in the implementation of the Multi-Annual Action Plan on Regional Economic Integration (MAP REA).
Mr. Zoran Popov holds a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Westminster in London. He has completed a series of training courses and seminars on European integration and the EU accession negotiations process, as well as on justice and home affairs. Mr. Popov has attended and completed several courses intended for senior officers in the civil service, while also spending the period between October 2000 and March 2001 as a trainee at the European Commission in Brussels
