Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani today in Ohrid met with Philip Reeker, Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and Matthew Palmer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Special Representative of the U.S. for the Balkans.
The meeting discussed improvement of the relations with the U.S., regional cooperation, realization of the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of North Macedonia, and integration in the EU.
“For us, the U.S. are our long-term strategic allies and partners. The new approach of the American administration to revive the trans-Atlantic partnership, creates many opportunities for us that we should utilize in order to encourage regional stability. As two NATO allies the goal is to strengthen our relations in the fields of security, defence, democratic functioning of the institutions, combatting global terrorism, free market economy and to expand the opportunities for business activities of both countries”, Osmani emphasised.
At the meeting, the European file of North Macedonia was also discussed, whereupon it was noted that the decision for opening negotiations with the EU should not be postponed any longer because the country has met all necessary conditions and criteria for that to happen.
