27 November 2020

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia strongly condemns the vandal act of desecration of the monument in Ohrid dedicated to the victims of the tragic accident of the boat Ilinden, in which Bulgarian tourists died on 5 September 2009.

The competent authorities have been informed and this misdeed of irresponsible and malicious individuals will be removed as soon as possible so that we can commemorate this tragedy in a dignified manner.

The doors of historic Ohrid remain wide open for all tourists, and particularly for our friends from neighbouring Bulgaria who are always welcome.
