If the short-term process of dealing with the migrant crisis entails successful border management and humane treatment of migrants, then the long-term solution calls for resolving the root problems at home, in countries whence migration waves originate. This means creating a quality educational system, employment opportunities, quality health care system, infrastructure, better living conditions etc. If people felt happy at home they are far less likely to decide to immigrate. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki in his address at the session related to the root causes of migration as part of the Summit on addressing large movements of refugees and migrants at the opening of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.
