The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov, met today with the staffers on the Committee on Foreign Relations of the United States Senate, led by Director Chris Socha. The meeting tackled the furthering of partnership relations between the two countries and the Euro-Atlantic perspectives of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Today, during the Munich Security Conference, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia and Georgia, Nikola Dimitrov and David Zalkaliani, respectively, signed the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that today, 14 February 2019, the Republic of North Macedonia, pursuant to the obligations resulting from the Final Agreement, presented three notes verbales: note verbale from the Permanent Mission to the UN Protocol; note verbale from the Permanent Mission to all UN member states and observer states; and note verbale from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to all international, multilateral and regional organisations, therewith informing them of the changes that have taken place.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrej Zernovski, met today with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Macedonia, Mrs. Natalia Zadorozhnyuk.

 

After the fulfilment of all legal requirements for the entry into force of the Final Agreement and the Constitutional amendments, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia shall publish the date of the entry into force of the Constitutional amendments and the Constitutional Law in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia.

 

At the invitation of NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov participated in the meeting of the North Atlantic Council on the occasion of the signature of the NATO Accession Protocol for the Republic of Macedonia, which was held today at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, Andrej Zernovski, met with the Secretary General of the Central European Initiative, Senator Roberto Antonine along with his associates from the CEI Secretariat in Trieste. At the meeting, Deputy MFA Zernovski extended his congratulations and wishes for success at his new position as the CEI Secretary General. Deputy MFA Zernovski emphasised that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the Central European Initiative (CEI) as the first and oldest regional forum. Since its inception, CEI has been advocating and promoting European integration and contributing to the overall progress of its members.

As part of his working visit to Washington, yesterday at the State Department the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov met with the Assistant Secretary of State for Europe Wes Mitchell. Minister Dimitrov briefed on the activities related to the implementation of the Prespa Agreement as well as on the upcoming activities regarding the ratification of the Accession Protocol for the Republic of Macedonia's NATO membership. Furthermore, MFA Dimitrov voiced the expectation that the ratification of the Protocol at the US Senate would soon follow. Assistant Secretary of State Mitchell assessed that the conclusion of the Prespa Agreement and its upcoming entry into force, followed by the Republic of Macedonia's NATO membership are historic moments of exceptional achievements that our country should take pride in. He particularly emphasised the expectation that these achievements will have a positive effect on the stability and prosperity of the region.
