The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Andrej Zernovski participated in the Fourth meeting of foreign ministers of the Adriatic Trilateral – Croatia, Albania and Montenegro, held in Zadar, Republic of Croatia.

The main topics of the meeting were the enlargement of the European Union on the eve of Croatia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2020, the cooperation within NATO, while opinions were also exchanged on current issues and challenges in the region.

On the sidelines of the above mentioned event, Deputy Minister Zernovski had a separate bilateral meeting with his Croatian host, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Gordan Grlic Radman.

The meeting confirmed the excellent friendly relations of the Republic of North Macedonia with the Republic of Croatia, and strongly reaffirmed the European perspective of our country.

“We expect a decision to start accession talks with North Macedonia and completion of the NATO membership process during our EU Presidency”, Croatian Foreign Minister Radman said.

Zernovski underlined “North Macedonia is maturing through our struggle. We are focusing our efforts on the future. We expect positive news during the Croatian Presidency as a valorization of what has been done so far.” In addition, talks tackled possibilities for advancing and deepening the bilateral cooperation.

Deputy FM Zernovski had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the Republic of Albania and the Republic of Montenegro.

The prevalent view at the meetings was that the region can produce good news if there is will and an honest approach.

“We can effectively tackle all challenges through joint and well-coordinated efforts at the regional level. Therefore, I firmly believe in the power of regional cooperation in Southeast Europe”, Zernovski said at the meetings.
