On the second day of the working visit to Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov had several meetings in the European Parliament with: Dacian Ciolos, chair of the Renew Europe Group, Andreas Schieder, co-chair of the EU-MK Joint Parliamentary Committee, Ilhan Kyuchyuk, EP Rapporteur for North Macedonia, as well as with MEPs of the Friends of North Macedonia Group in the EP.

At the briefing with the informal parliamentary group “Friends of North Macedonia” initiated by Slovenian MEP Irena Joveva, Minister Dimitrov thanked for the European Parliament’s continued support for the European integration process of the Republic of North Macedonia, voicing expectation that the support will be strengthened under the new EP composition. On this occasion, he briefed the interlocutors on the latest reform activities and tangible results, as well as the regional issues and our efforts to promote good-neighbourly relations. Minister Dimitrov expressed appreciation of EP’s support through the resolution which calls on the EU to make the decision to start accession talks with North Macedonia and Albania immediately after the October EU Summit.

MEPs welcomed the reform achievements and provided strong support for achieving the European strategic goal of North Macedonia as soon as possible.

Minister Dimitrov also met today with Bjoern Seibert, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s Chief of Staff, where both sides expressed strong commitment to strengthening and validating the European position of North Macedonia, whereby FM Dimitrov noted:

“If the new EU institutions have bolder strategic goals and a wider geopolitical perspective, our example is an excellent opportunity to prove that the accession process is the genuine tool for the European transformation of the countries in the region.”
