On 5 November 2019, a meeting was held in the premises of the MFA between the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia Mr. Zoran Popov and the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to North Macedonia, Mr. Angel Angelov.

Talks tackled the current cooperation between the two countries, which over the last two years since the signing of the Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighbourliness and Cooperation (Treaty on Friendship) has seen positive results in almost all areas of common interest, especially in economy and tourism. Interest was emphasised in the importance of infrastructure and energy connectivity, as well as in other areas that will also be the topics of the joint presidency over the Berlin Process in the coming year.

State Secretary Zoran Popov thanked for the support of the Republic of Bulgaria during the last Council of the EU, as well as the statements and efforts made by Bulgaria to put the issue of opening accession talks between our country and the EU on the agenda as soon as possible. Furthermore, he voiced satisfaction with the results achieved this far in terms of the economic indicators, trade as well as the positive trend concerning the intensification thereof. Opinions were also exchanged on the key activities during the joint presidency of North Macedonia and Bulgaria over the Berlin Process in 2020.

It was mutually underlined with Ambassador Angelov that the future of the Republic of North Macedonia lies in EU and NATO membership which will contribute to the development and stability of the entire region. Furthermore, they reviewed the next steps and activities at a bilateral level, aimed at continuing the constructive mutual cooperation.
