On the sidelines of the General Debate of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov met with his Latvian counterpart, Edgars Rinkēvičs.



Minister Dimitrov underlines that Macedonian citizens, who give broad support to the European idea, have high expectations from the October meeting of the European Council.  A positive decision will be a clear message to them, the region and the trust in the EU policy towards the Balkans.

Minister Rinkēvičs voiced unconditional support for our commitment for EU and NATO membership.  Given the current momentum, he noted that the EU should give a positive signal which will be good for the EU as well as for the stability of the region and the credibility of the enlargement policy.

The interlocutors also tackled the dynamics related to our accession to the Alliance ahead of the London NATO Summit.

Minister Dimitrov and the Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui signed the Protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The diplomatic relations with the Republic of Tunisia will lead to the establishment of a political dialogue and the creation of opportunities to intensify the economic and cultural exchanges as well as multilateral cooperation.

Minister Dimitrov and the Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan signed the Protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The establishment of diplomatic relations with Armenia will contribute to the deepening of the overall cooperation between the two countries.  The formalization provides new perspectives for the development of the political dialogue, intensification of the cultural and economic cooperation as well as more frequent multilateral communication.

Grounds for more intensive cooperation were also established with Georgia.  Minister Dimitrov and the Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani signed a Protocol of Cooperation between the two ministries and discussed enhancing the relations through political consultations, visa liberalisation, business visits and multilateral cooperation.
