Continuing his activities within the General Debate of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov met with the Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius.

Minister Dimitrov underlined the breakthrough in terms of good-neighbourly relations and the reform progress as a strong argument for our European commitments. Minister Linkevičius welcomed the commitment to the reform agenda and the determination to close the open foreign-policy issues.  Strong support was voiced at the meeting for our aspirations to EU and NATO membership.

Minister Dimitrov took part in a joint lunch of ministers of foreign affairs of countries participating in the Central European Initiative (CEI).  The discussion focused on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and strengthening the role of the youth in the region.

During the event, FM Dimitrov said: "The regional integration processes are especially important but they make sense only in light of a meaningful and credible European perspective. We need the green light in October. Otherwise, the credibility of the enlargement policy will be seriously called into question.  The integration of the region must not remain an unfinished business.”

The event was organised under the Italian CEI Presidency and opinions were exchanged during the event on ways to promote coordination between member-states within the UN on issues of mutual interest.

Minister Dimitrov addressed the 14th Conference on Facilitating the Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).  Speaking about the risks associated with the nuclear proliferation and the need for disarmament, Minister Dimitrov joined the calls for signing and ratifying the Treaty by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, aimed at complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Dimitrov also attended the transatlantic dinner at the invitation of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.  During the dinner, the commitments to increased transatlantic security and fostering shared values were reaffirmed while talks also tackled the global risks and challenges.
