This year marks 73 years since the establishment of the United Nations, and the topic of "Leave No One Behind" remains in the focus.

The President of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, in his address discussed the goals and principles of the UN Charter, as well as the importance of the cooperation that the Republic of Macedonia has with the UN: "We have to be honest and say that the independence of our country and its place in the international community was and still is strongly supported by multilateral institutions. It is an extra motive for us as a member of the UN for more than 70 years to give our contribution to the realisation of global prerequisites for sustainable development of the global community of peoples."

In addition to that, Minister Dimitrov said that the Republic of Macedonia will continue to promote the essential values of the UN for promoting peace, justice, human dignity, dialogue, tolerance and solidarity. "Even at a time when the credibility of the UN is put into question, we have succeeded in reaching a solution to the problem that stood in the way of our ambition for Euro-Atlantic integration, with the support of the UN. This is a confirmation for the relevance of the UN and the need to strengthen it as a very important pillar of international order."

In that vein, UN Resident Coordinator Louisa Vinton also reaffirmed the need for cooperation and voiced the following message: "Our efforts can address only a fraction of the challenges that the country faces, whether in creating good jobs, building strong institutions, protecting the environment or ensuring equal rights for all citizens. That is why our message for today is that the sustainable development goals are not a matter just for the Government or for the UN agencies. None of the goals can be achieved without everyone pitching in to help. And everyone has something to contribute."
